I was coming home from an art supply store. The day was stressingly hot and I had beaten mostly all of the heavy metropolitan traffic in a fit of rage, taking parallel streets and little known paths. Finally, I was a block away from home. The anticipation of a nice meal and a yellow traffic light made me step on the gas and pick up speed. Just then, the lady on my left decided to make a sharp right with no warning whatsoever. My tires screeched, but to no avail: my left front corner hit the right back corner of her car, breaking one of my lights, denting my bumper and scratching the paint of her vehicle. No greater damage. We stopped ahead. She was shaking badly and muttering a chain of apologies. We inspected the damage on the cars and, since we were both in a hurry, exchanged numbers to fix everything when the time was right. She gave me her card and I quickly noticed under her name an e-mail with the name of a producer agency, a company that might hire illustrators.
Go on, tell her!! hissed the voice in my head.
I grabbed the chance, told her I was looking for a job as an illustrator and such. She laughed. Could it be any more convenient? Later, when I called, she told me she practically left her agency to hit my car. She had a meeting scheduled on the following day and, making a confusion with the dates, she had left for the meeting the day before. After the crash, she figured the mistake looking at her schedule and returned to the agency. As if she had gone specifically after me.
I am not a believer in superstitions nor in religion. But I must admit these things make me wonder...
